Request for info on houseboat rentals?

Could someone answer a question for me?  I and about 15 friends are
looking to rent a houseboat on Lake Powell in Northern Arizona / Southern
Utah.  We did this once before a few years ago and rented a 50′ boat from
State Line Marina, but it was a real dog with lots of mechanical problems.
We’re interested in getting a boat in better shape (all of State Line’s
were pretty bad), and we’re interesting in exploring private rentals.

So the question is this:  Is this a good place to post such a request for
information, or can anyone suggest a better newsgroup or other source?

Please respond directly to: d…@baidarka.mdn.com

Thanks very much!

EastCoast Waterway/Bahamas

My wife and I are planning to "drop out" in ’96, and cruise the
Waterway and Bahamas in our 36′ Jarvis Newman trawler.
We’d like to hear from others re: suggestions, anchorages,
gear, navigational tips etc. etc..
We hope to use this laptop w/cellular modem for communications
with family & friends and to do our bills . . . Can we make that work?

It is desirable, especially singlehanding, to be able to lower and
raise the main without coming head to wind.  When the boat is
self-steering off the wind, it is often necessary to adjust sail area
by reefing/unreefing to maintain balance.  Additionally, if faced with
a squall, it is seaworthy to be able to quickly drop the main.  Having
to come head to wind in a breeze, to reef or unreef, is a sure recipe
for losing your battens, accidently tacking, or worse.
The difficulty seems to be that some luff slide systems bind up
with sideways pressure.  This is not true of the majority of luff
slides and grooves. There are solutions to a binding mainsail luff for
those determined to tackle the difficulty.  Personally, I couldn’t see
going offshore with a main that wouldn’t come down except head to wind.
But it is common practice.

For some reason, cruising the south Texas coastline has
gone WAY down ever since we repatriated the Karankawas.
