Ferro Boats in Oz

I would greatly appreciate advice, opinions and especially comparisons
on the most popular Ferro designs that are avail in Australia.

I’d like to get past the old "Ferro bashing" as that’s another
discussion.

My budget is small, so Ferro is on the agenda.

I know some fine boats are available for serious cruising however, I
have not been aboard the various makes, so when I see an apparently
good deal for sale, I’d like to know what to expect.

I will confine myself to either (truly) prof built or good evidence of
building methods and materials.

The most prevelant designs that I would welcome opinions on (typical
layout, Handling, trouble spots, suitability for 2 to 4 crew, etc.)
are:
Wilf O’Kell designs
Samson  "
Hartley Tahitian
"  South Seas
"  Queenslander
"  Fijian

Thanks in advance
Popeye.

Aruba Chandelries

I am leaving in two days for Aruba (flying) and need to replace my
inflatable.  Anybody have anything to say about buying an Achilles either
there or in Venezuela and bringing it back as extra baggage? How about
chandelries there?  I’d also like some Weems & Plath stuff if it’d be
worthwhile.  Thanks in advance.

Newbie here: Need some advice on liveaboard cruiser

Hi, I am a newbie considering purchasing a ’77 Chriscraft 35′ Catalina
DC for a live-aboard cruiser for $45K.

First, is this a reasonable price for a well kept boat of this model?
Can I take this boat into high seas safely?

Is $160/mo a good rate for a live-aboard non-floating slip?
ammenities: showers/ bathroom/ pool/ non-covered parking

What should I expect to pay for insurance (fire/sinking/etc.)
if I finance $32K?

What banks are best for financing? Is 15yrs the max I can go?

Has your life changed/ improved considerably living-aboard?

Are there any other hidden costs I need to be aware of (closing, other
fees)?

Thanks for your time,

BJD

Radio Cable Slaps inside of MAst

A method I used on an O’day 25 was to run lengths of foam pipe insulation
up the inside of the mast. It comes in various sizes and is light and
removable. It did quiet the banging down.

How much will propane stove/oven cost me

I’m seriously considering making an offer on a Pearson 40 and it has
an alcohol stove/oven. Any idea where I could get a propane stove/oven
and how much it would cost me. Ditto for a refrigerator. Has big ice
box but no fridge.

R U Going 2 TrawlerFest – Seattle – August?

Hi,

We are going to the trawlerfest (Port Orchard WA, August 9 to 11), and
would like to hear from others who are too.  We would especially like to
hear from those who will be going by boat.  Dreamers (like us) welcome
too.

It is a long way for us to go, and we’d like to already know a few
prople, see a few boats, and exchange ideas.

Our goal is to move aboard a 40 to 50 foot trawler for a couple of
years, then sail away upon retirement.

SF Bay area: slip&trailer-site wanted

I’m moving from Portland Oregon this month to a new position in San
Francisco. I’m looking for a slip for a small 20′ sailboat along with room
for a small camper-trailer in the Bay area. I’ve noticed such an
arrangement at the ‘Mission Creek Marina,’ but am unable to determine
their address/phone. Similar suggestions appreciated too!

Thanks!  /:b

Satcoms for smaller boats

Does anyone have any experience with smaller, less expensive
sattelite communication systems?  I’m looking for something that
would be practical on a 39 foot boat.  Data alone would be fine.

My old and loved Avon Redstart inflatable was stolen, and I am interested
in buying another, since it suited my needs and my yacht perfectly.

I trawel around Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland) now and
