I don’t normally read this newsgroup, but I’m looking for information for
a friend that’s relevant to this newsgroup. He has a captain’s license
and has worked managing a marina in New York. He now works as a ship’s
chandler, but he’s interested in finding work at a sizeable marina (such
as managing again) or work that requires his captain’s license, but he’s
not sure of the normal recruitment and hiring practices of the marinas.
Can anyone help with this information? Does anyone know anything about
the marina’s practices for hiring an upper level position or can someone
direct me to a good place to search for information? Thanks for any
help!!!

Request for Info on Marinas
Y Valve information.
It is illegal to discharge raw sewage from a vessel in territorial waters (within the 3
mile limit), the Great Lakes, and navigable rivers (this is federal law, some states
have NO DISCHARGE zones also) . However, a valve may be installed on any MSD (marine
sanitation device) to provide for the direct discharge of raw sewage when the vessel is
outside U.S. territorial waters. The valve must be secured in a closed position while
operating in U.S. waters. Use of a padlock, non-releaseable wire tie, or the removal
of the valve handle would be considered adequate securing of the device. The method
chosen must be one that presents a physical barrier to the use of the valve.
Hope this helps!

Cleaning the deck
My thanks to all of you who wrote to say how you cleaned your deck. I
used a combination of dishwasher detergent gel and Bartenders friend. It
worked great and the boat looks better than it has all season.
– I wish you a GREAT DAY!!!

re: scuttle boat
I Think they must have gotten too much sun, or something
RE: What are Dutchmen?
The Dutchman system uses several monofiliment lines dropping straight
down from a special adjustable topping lift with appropriate fittings –
the lines pass through the sail (through metal ‘grommets’) several times
– think of them as woven’ through the sail – so that a dropped sail is
compelled to ‘flake’ over the boom in relatively large flakes. The
bottom of each line is fastened to the foot of the sail. They will keep
the sail on the boom and off the deck, even without ties (but ties are
not eliminated).

Spinnaker info needed.
Restoring a Spirit 23; round bilged, shoal draft; (2 ft board up);
came with all options except spinnaker.
Are all spinnakers about the same for this kind of boat?
Can I buy a used spinn off of a cal 23, cat 23, etc?
Or, do I need to do the best I can to get ahold of an original one?
Thanks in advance for any help

I must have missed the cyber cruise with the ferret.

Gee, I thought it was that Dudley minded that I was broad, not that
you were broadminded. What did he call me? The behemoth?
Yes, here I am, although I had to get access through alternate paths
due to the system at work being down due to the company relocating.
I have the admiral’s permission to attend this one. In fact, she is
looking forward to it also. However, she is nixing my plans to bring the
25 inch television. And she may ban the red wine from the cabin.
Otherwise, count us in.
