I am upgrading my radar system to a RayMarine C-80 with a 4 KW radome. I
would like to gimbal it and am looking for feedback on good/bad mounts. I
will be attaching it to a pole on the stern of the boat.
– Thanks, Geoff

A few months ago, the President implemented even stricter rules governing
visits to Cuba. I am a Canadian with a Canadian registered boat planning to
visit Cuba next winter, but the new rules appear to include me if I leave
from USA.
Does anyone have any recent experience?
My daysail boat open cockpit (Tempest22) floor is making cracking noise when
I walk on it.
There is small crack also.I patched the crack with fiberglass cloth.
Now I have to solve the problem to prevent farther cracks.
I ‘m considering 2 options:
Cover the floor with playwood and fiberglass over- details like non
skid and glue between playwood and current flooring arise . Someone
recommended applying expendable foam to seal the playwood to floor
Second option is to re fiberglass with cloth and several layers , and fill
the space between hull and floor with expendable foam to support the weight
of the crew.
I lean toward 2 option.
please share your suggestions
Thank you.

While sitting on my (new to me) boat yesterday, trying to figure out how
and where to mount a sea water strainer, it occured to me that the hose
routing would be a lot cleaner if I connected stuff like this:
Intake-strainer-exchanger-pump-exhaust
Any problems I’m overlooking with this arrangement?
Also, I noticed the heat exchanger zinc (pencil) is mounted on the
bottom. This means that whenever I check the zinc, I’m going to
have water in the bilge. Any reason I can’t have a new zinc nut
welded to the top? Oh, it’s a horizontal heat exchanger.
Thanks,

Does anyone have the recommended values for tensioning the stays and shrouds
of a 1992 Prout Event 34?
We’re sailing her from N Carolina to FL and would like to balance the rig
correctly (9/32" wire).
You can see us at <jelliclecat.com>, thanks, Don & Betty Bottomley

I would like to try powering my main winches [Barient 28s] by a
[preferably] portable drill/impact wrench/etc., as at least an emergency
option.
Has anyone successfully done this ?
If yes, how’d you determine what you needed ? I see that there are now
numerous new portable ones that range up to 24v.
If portable ones are insufficient, how ’bout such as DeWalt and
Milwaukee 1/2" corded models ?
What has been found unsatisfactory about such an application ?
Appreciatively,
Courtney

SpinSheet magazine caught us playing hooky from work. They put Tempest on

My Yanmar 2gm used to go 3400 rpm — I did it a couple of times just to
see if it would go the recommended redline. But now it will only go
2800 rpm full squeeze. And at 2800 rpm (either at the slip or under way)
it puts out a little whitish smoke. I’ve been thru the fuel system and
so far can’t find anything that would be limiting the fuel flow (new
hoses, new filter elements, etc).
Any suggestions of other reasons this thing won’t go full blast.?
Thanks
