How about poop spewing people? I can think of Harry Krause, Don White ,
Doug Kanter, atl_m…@yahoo.com, and a few others. Not only can they smell
and respond to shit, but they make a lot of it too!

Electricty wins!

Brian and Ian will be glad to hear that their contributions to the
thread on the design of the extended range bilge pumping system were
not if vain.

I have experimented with both the siphon and checkvalve versions of
the cofferdam idea and it has been very instructive. Both seem like
simple ideas that just have to work. If fact, both will if you are
dealing with rapid water level changes such as would happen with a
broken stuffing box hose. Most of the time though, the bilge system
will be experiencing very slow accumulations and level changes. Things
happen very differently at this time scale.

Check valves that work reliably at very low heads and slow level
changes are not a trivial engineering proposition. The very slow rise
does not put any pressure in the flap so water seeps in. This
equalizes the pressure on each side and the cofferdam fills up. If you
pre-load the check valve, it will prevent the cofferdam filling but
then there won’t be enough difference in pressure to allow it to
empty. It can be done but would be so delicate an adjustment that it
would never work reliably in the real word.

Photos/Movies from Lighthouse Reef, Belize on-line

I spent 3-4 months this winter at Lighthouse Reef in Belize aboard my
sailboat. We dove on average 2 times a day. I had just replaced my Se & Sea
film camera with an Olympus C-8080 digital camera and spent the majority of
my dives recording the marine life there.

If you’ve never been to the atolls off of Belize, mark them on your must-
see list for diving. I’ve dove most of the Caribbean, and imho the atolls
of Belize rank tops in my list, with only Bonaire being in the same
ranking. I will say that I haven’t made it to the Caymans…yet…

On my web site you’ll find over 125 species of fish, 60+ creatures, 50 some
types of coral, sponges, etc, etc. I’ve also placed some movies that I’ve
finally been able to edit (probably requires a broadband connection to
realistically view). I’ve tried to make sure that my identification is
correct, but if you find an error, please let me know.

The web site is located at http://www.GeoffSchultz.org/ and you can find
the photos by clicking on the Photos button and then going into either
"2005 Sailing" or "Diving Photos Master Index."

I hope that you find this enjoyable and/or useful!

Canadian Charts Wanted

I will be taking a small sailboat up the St.Laurence River  and through the
Trent-Severn System this season and I am looking for used charts in good
condition.  Some of the charts I feel I need are the following:
    1317
    1233
    1234
    1235
    1236
    1400
    4028

I also have little knowledge of what might be needed for the Trent-Severn
System regarding Sailing Directions or useful charts.  Any advice would be
helpful.  I haven’t found the Transport Canada website particularly easy to
navigate.

Thanks.
